THE CHEMISTRY OF DAL SAYS IT IS NOT PRIMARY SOURCE OF PROTEIN.

Dal is Widely used in almost all parts of India and is a regular part of Diet .

Many consider it as a rich source of protein, but the fact is that it is a rich source of carbohydrates rather than proteins and also contains some fibers.

Dal is not considered as a complete protein because it is low in methionine and cysteine.

Proteins are made up of amino acids, and they can come from variety of sources such as egg, milk and and plant sources.Proteins are made up of essential and non essential amino acids.non essential amino acids can be made by the body while  essential amino acids cannot be made by the body so you must get them from Diet.

Cysteine and methionine belong to essential amino acids.Dal is low in Methionine and cysteine

There are nine essential amino acids  which are important for essential functioning of the human body.

Dal will not fulfill the protein requirement of the body.

Dal is rich in carbohydrates.and contains valuable nutrients .Dal contains both essential and non essential amino acids but the imbalance in these two amino acids makes difficult to recognise dal as primary source of protein. So depending only on dal for protein purpose

will not help us to maintain good health.

The human body may not utilize the protein present in dal as compared to other protein rich food.

So instead of dal there are plenty of options available which are a good source of protein as compared to dal.

Lean meat ,fish ,eggs, dairy products such as paneer are good source of proteins,

The combination of rice and dal is popular in almost every household  in India .This dish may be the perfect combination when you eat in a balanced way.Rice is rich in methionine and cysteine which are important amino acids.
